This was the first stop (of 10 total) on the Stop Global Warming college tour. The show was free and included a presentation by Laurie David. Sherly then came out and played 3 songs. Laurie David returned and they took questions from the audience. Sheryl then played 1 last song.

Sheryl Was made fun of shortly after this tour started for saying on her blog that we should just use one square of toilet paper to save paper. It was at this show where she first suggested it and, as you can hear, was clearly meant as a joke (see Sheryl Talks #1).

[NEWS] A MESSAGE FROM SHERYL: WYATT AND THE WORLD FOOD PROGRAMME

Hi Everyone!

Well, as you no doubt have seen, Wyatt and I did our first, and probably only, photoshoot for a magazine. I have always made it a practice to keep my private life out of the public light but to be honest, I was being heavily stalked by photographers who wanted the get the "first shot." And rather than have someone I don't know sell a shot to a magazine, we accepted OK magazine's offer to make a generous donation to an amazing organization called the World Food Program in Wyatt's name.. (Please visit their site by clicking on the name or pasting this in your browser http://www.wfp.org)

So....Wyatt is now a humanitarian! Because he and I happened to catch an interview with Drew Barrymore on the Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer about this organization, we were inspired to get involved with the WFP.

In a nutshell, this United Nations non-profit organization feeds millions of starving children at schools in third world countries as an incentive for them to attend school, which in turn might better their futures. They do so much more but I was so struck by this story that our relationship with the WFP was born, with the help of OK Magazine.

Hope you enjoy!

[NEWS] SHERYL SUPPORTS UN FOOD AGENCY

24 May 2007 – Sheryl Crow, a Grammy-winning singer-songwriter from the United States, is throwing her support behind the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) after watching its Ambassador, actress Drew Barrymore, discuss child hunger, the agency said today.

“I was so struck by this story that our relationship with the WFP was born,” the singer wrote on her blog, describing she and her newly adopted son Wyatt learned about "an amazing organization called the World Food Programme" after hearing Ms. Barrymore, who is also a movie producer, talk about her new role as a WFP Ambassador against Hunger on CNN.

“Wyatt is now a humanitarian!” said Ms. Crow, whose hits include “All I Wanna Do,” “Soak Up the Sun” and “If It Makes You Happy.”

In an exclusive interview published in this week's OK! Magazine, the 45-year-old singer praises the agency and its Ambassador. “It is absolutely amazing, the number of kids that they feed. They have an unbelievable spokesperson in Drew.”

During her CNN interview, Ms. Barrymore, appointed as Ambassador against Hunger earlier this month, gives a moving account of her recent visit to WFP-supported school feeding projects in Kenya.

“In a nutshell, this United Nations non-profit organization feeds millions of starving children at schools in third world countries as an incentive for them to attend school, which in turn might better their futures,” writes Ms. Crow. “They do so much more but I was so struck by this story.”

By providing nutritious meals to over 20 million school children in 71 countries, WFP's school feeding programme ensures a child's healthy development and education and gives hope for the future.

Ms. Crow's blog encourages readers to visit the WFP website to make an online donation. For just $21, the agency said, it can feed a child in school for a year.

[MAGAZINES] OK! - MAY 25, 2007 - FULL ARTICLE

Introducing Wyatt Crow

Sheryl Crow has surrendered her heart to a new man. He may only weigh in at 7 pounds, 10 ounces, with the tape measure showing him at a mere 22 inches, but he has the beautiful, blonde rock chick firmly wrapped around his ever-so-tiny fingers. Sheryl’s ‘little man,’ as she likes to call him, is her newly adopted son, Wyatt Steven Crow, who was 3 weeks old when Sheryl proudly showed him off to OK! for his first-ever photo shoot.

The adoption is a wonderful piece of good news for Missouri-born Sheryl, 45, after a well-documented and difficult 2006. There was the split from fiancé Lance Armstrong and then the awful news that she had Stage I breast cancer. A lumpectomy and radiation treatments were prescribed and a delighted Sheryl confirmed to OK!, ‘I am cancer-free.’ Remarkably, Sheryl seems to have gained strength from that dreadful year.

OK! met with Sheryl and her son in her beautiful L.A. home where photos of family and friends are displayed much more prominently than her nine Grammy Awards. The house has a warm, lived-in feel, with mutts Oscar and Lucy following Mom and her new bundle of joy wherever they go. Sheryl shared the most joyous event in her life exclusively with OK! readers and described what it felt like the first time she was called Mommy.

When did you start thinking about adopting?

I’ve always wanted to adopt. Even if I’d had my own kids, I would have adopted. I love the idea of adopting. I always thought I had an immense amount of love to give.

When did you start the process?

I got started at the end of my radiation treatment. I knew it would take a long time. They don’t put you at the front of the line just because you’re a rock star. I went through the proper channels and did it just like everybody else does it.

Describe what you went through.

I went through an agency. I filled out a lot of paperwork. You answer all kinds of questions and they come and visit you. This was a closed adoption, but I have a physical description and the medical history of the parents, which is really great because you know what your child is in for regarding medical issues.

Did you want a boy?

I did not care. I did not care what nationality. I do believe, and it may sound wacky, that souls pick their surroundings. I feel like Wyatt was on his way, one way or the other.

Do you have any concerns, as a public person, that even with a closed adoption, down the line someone is going to say, ‘That’s my baby’?

I have great faith that things will work out the way they’re meant to. I am going to raise him in a healthy environment. He will know he’s adopted. He will know as much as he wants to know about his family. And if the time comes that he wants to meet his birth family, I will help him with that.

Have you thought about what you’ll tell Wyatt and when?

I think it will come about when it comes about. When he’s old enough to understand it, we’ll talk about it. By then he’ll already know and love me as his mom.

BRINGING BABY HOME

When did you know you might be getting your son?

I knew he was coming and I knew there was an opportunity for the birth mother to change her mind. I flew to where he was, which was in another state, and I took him home a day later. He was 1 day old. His birthday is April 29.

What did you say to him the first time you saw him?

I think I said, ‘Welcome to the world,’ but mostly I just stared at him.

You named him after some very special men in your life.

My dad’s middle name is Wyatt. My brother is Steven. They are the two men I love and respect the most.

MOTHERHOOD

Who was the first person to call you Mom?

My parents were out here when he was born. My mom would hand him to me and say, ‘Here’s your mommy.’ It was really poignant — and very startling — to hear my mom call me Mommy. It took me a while to get used to it.

When did you begin to reprioritize your life?

Instantly! The day that he came home, I felt like the whole house had changed. The house felt fuller. For the first couple of weeks, of course, you just feel like nesting and making sure that he’s acclimated to the world. It is all so fascinating. You don’t want to miss a thing. I’ve barely
left the house.

What’s been your favorite moment with him?

My favorite moment is waking up in the middle of the night and seeing him next to me and realizing, ‘Oh, he’s still here! How fantastic! It’s not a dream.’

What were your fears going into this?

I didn’t have any trepidation about how I’d do as a mom. But there are certain things that you can’t know with a new baby that you have to learn as you go. Luckily, my parents were here, and I’ve gotten great advice from my mother and I have a wonderful baby nurse.

Who else has given you great advice? My dear friend Laura Dern has been with me all the way through this experience and had a baby shower for me last week. And Gabby Reece has been with me all the way. These very ‘Earth Mother’ types are really dialed into how to raise a baby organically and holistically.

RAISING WYATT

Do you worry about getting married in the future to provide a father for Wyatt?

I’m very happy where I am and don’t feel any pressure to get married. Wyatt is going to be the gatekeeper! There won’t be anybody coming between Wyatt and Mom.

How are you going to keep Wyatt from becoming a Hollywood brat?

I believe in saying no. I’m going to try and be a really good parent and not his best friend. I’m not going to raise him and have him go to school here [in L.A.]. I have a farm in Nashville and he’ll grow up down there. I have family there and also in Missouri just a few hours away.

Will there be any little brothers or sisters for Wyatt?

Definitely, a whole troop! I love kids. I can definitely see myself adopting more kids. As soon as I brought Wyatt home, I told my mom I wanted another. She told me to slow down and learn what I was doing with Wyatt first.

LIFE

How did you get through last year?

It was tough, but it was a good year. I let go of a lot of stuff. I had the best tour [with John Mayer] of my entire life. It was so joyful, especially after having gone through radiation.

If you’d been writing a country song, you had all the material you needed.

It was movie-of-the-week stuff. But that’s real life.

DATING

Are you dating?

I’m having a great time dating but I’m shy about sharing my private life. There is somebody, but I’m not walking down the aisle.

Give us a hint!

No, he’d kill me. He likes his anonymity. He’s not in this business. I’m happy with my main man, Wyatt. Life’s really good.

You now come as a package deal.

That’s right. You buy one and get one free. I used to gauge men on how they were around my dogs. Wyatt now becomes the deciding factor. This little boy is so special. It will be very informative about anyone I might get involved with. What are they really made of? How much love do they have?

CHARITY

How did you get involved with the World Food Program?

I was watching Wolf Blitzer on CNN while feeding Wyatt. Drew Barrymore was talking about the World Food Program. It is absolutely amazing, the number of kids that they feed. They have an unbelievable spokesperson in Drew. I sent her an e-mail saying, ‘You are the coolest chick I know.’ I want to help in any way I can.

Did becoming a mom spur you on to help the WFP?

I don’t think there is any coincidence that I was feeding my baby watching these starving children living in abject poverty. Then the opportunity came up to make a real difference.

CAREER

How’s the new album?

I’m three-quarters of the way through it. I’m going to try and finish it by the end of July. Hopefully one song — a very political song — will be out by Christmas. I’ll probably go on tour in February or March of next year. Baby and nanny and the two dogs will all go on the tour bus with me. If I could take my horses, I would.

So, Wyatt’s going to be a world traveler?

I’m getting him his passport already!

[NEWS] SHERYL CROW TRIES "NESTING"

By Karen Thomas, USA TODAY
Sheryl Crow is one happy rock chick.

In her first interview and photo shoot as a brand-new mom, the singer coos about spending the past three weeks holed up in her Los Angeles mansion with her just-adopted newborn son, Wyatt.

"The day he came home (on April 30), I felt like the whole house had changed. The house felt fuller," Crow tells OK! magazine, on stands Friday. "You just feel like nesting and making sure he's acclimated to the world. It is all so fascinating."

The Missouri native, who went through a closed, out-of-state adoption and had Wyatt within 24 hours of his birth, says her parents and a "wonderful baby nurse" have been in the house to help out.

"My mom would hand him to me and say, 'Here's your mommy.' It was really poignant (and very startling) to hear my mom call me Mommy," Crow says. "It took me a while to get used to it."

Also lending motherly advice: friends, including "Earth Mother types" actress Laura Dern, who has two kids, ages 2 and 5, and volleyball star Gabby Reece, who has a 3-year-old. Crow says they "are really dialed in to how to raise a baby organically and holistically."

The singer outlines some fairly concrete plans on raising Wyatt. For one, his primary residence will be with Crow in her Nashville home — not L.A. — and he will go to school in Tennessee. She expects "a whole troop" of brothers and sisters to eventually join Wyatt.

A husband/father is a definite maybe. Crow, 45, says she doesn't "feel any pressure to get married." She confesses there is a "somebody" (who is not in the business) in her life, "but I'm not walking down the aisle."

When she does, Wyatt will be the "deciding factor."

Her next album is nearly finished, and she hopes to hit the road with a tour in February that will include Wyatt, a nanny and mutts Oscar and Lucy.

But for now, she's content as a housebound mom savoring the precious moments. Her favorite: "Waking up in the middle of the night and seeing him next to me and realizing, 'Oh, he's still here! How fantastic! It's not a dream.' "

[NEWS] NARCONON BENEFIT POSTPONED

CHESNEY/CROW CONCERT POSTPONED

Sorry, music fans. Last week's announcement about a giant concert featuring Kenny Chesney, Sheryl Crow, Lisa Marie Presley and others at the Waikiki Shell May 24 is superseded by this announcement: The concert has been postponed.

The event was to be a benefit for Narconon, the drug-rehab program associated with the Church of Scientology; and it was to be hosted by actors (and husband and wife team) John Travolta and Kelly Preston, who are members of Scientology. No further details about a new concert date or the final lineup of performers were available.

However, if you still want to hobnob with Travolta, former Honolulan Preston and presumably some of their celebrity pals, there's a Narconon-benefit dinner May 24 at Stage restaurant, at the Honolulu Design Center. It'll cost you, though: $2,500 a person, special menu by executive chef Jon Matsubara. Expect the food to be extraordinary.

Call 373-9911 for the May 24 dinner reservations.

[NEWS] EASY CROW TIGER

Singer/songwriter Ryan Adams has settled on the track list for his ninth studio album, "Easy Tiger," due June 26 via Lost Highway. The 13-song set features guest vocals from Sheryl Crow on "Two" and was recorded with guitarist Neal Casal, pedal steel guitarist Jon Graboff, bassist Chris Feinstein and drummer Brad Pemberton.

"Easy Tiger" opens with the midtempo, country-tinged "Goodnight Rose," as Adams strains for Neil Young-ish high notes. Other highlights include the loose rocker "Halloweenhead," the drum-less, acoustic guitar-led "Oh My God, Whatever, Etc.," and the harmony rich lament "Two Hearts."

The new album is the follow-up to 2006's "29," which itself came on the heels of the separate 2005 releases "Cold Roses" and "Jacksonville City Nights." In advance of a planned fall tour, Adams will play a few shows this month, beginning May 15 in Glenside, Pa.

[NEWS - SGWT] FINAL SGWT BLOG FROM SHERYL: FOOD FOR THOUGHT

It’s been well over a week since the Stop Global Warming College tour ended and I am just now processing the experience. A few concerns still hang heavy on my mind and heart.

First, I am deeply concerned over where we are as a nation. I feel we are so blessed to live in a country where we enjoy so many rights that other countries cannot even begin to imagine. However, it terrifies me that we seem to have lost touch with our connection to the earth. I am concerned that we have risen to such heights of arrogance in our refusal to acknowledge that our earth is rapidly changing in ways that might affect us catastrophically but instead, we hold steadfast to our belief that nothing can happen to us as a people. We get into our oversized, war-machine-like vehicles and stay distracted by the business of getting on with daily life.

Clearly, the subject of global warming remains a partisan issue in the minds of many conservatives. It appears to me that many on the right want to see this as a liberal issue, as demonstrated in the continued debate, rather than accepting the peer-reviewed science that is so clearly laid out for us earthlings. I suppose after our encounter with Karl Rove, I got a little taste of what it feels like to have dipped my thumb into the political pie for a brief moment, over what I failed to realize was still a political topic, or in Mr. Rove’s words, an insulting topic. I got my hand slapped, as if to say, “don’t mess with the big boys, even on topics as humanitarian as global warming.” Within hours, the climate certainly did change. It was me at the center of a storm-like spin. I have seen ranting political pundits work their spin before but, like most people, I have always tuned it out... at least, until the moment when the spin was about my reputation. It feels pretty scary to watch credible news outlets run with a story that is clearly not true, debate my patriotism over my alleged desire to have the use of toilet tissue legislated, and to be the joke of late night TV monologues, all as a result of a 2 week old blog and nightly comedy routine that was taken out of context and spun as truth, instead of the joke it clearly was. What terrifies me the most is that we not only accept this of our journalists today but we are oblivious to it, and thus, oblivious to the damage it causes. When “news stories” are broken, do we not expect a certain amount of fact-checking or source-checking? One has to ask if this falls under the guise of sloppy reporting or deception as a source of spin. We seem to accept a certain amount of deception and we seem to be helpless to doing anything about it, as illustrated so clearly by where we are right now in this moment in our history.

(I’d like to thank Glenn Beck for his apology and his acknowledgement that he had reported my little toilet tissue sketch as real news).

Which brings me back to my original subject: the planet. Deeper than temperature and the extinction of the polar bear is the idea that we all share this beautiful, ailing planet, Democrats and Republicans alike. What Laurie and I were proposing by encouraging every college student to change a light bulb was actually meant to be not only useful in the fight against global warming but also symbolic of a change in attitude. It is bound by the belief that perhaps what each of us does in our personal lives does truly affect another person's freedoms. If I drive a gas guzzling 12 cylinder vehicle knowing what I know now about carbon emissions and our dependence on foreign oil, I am basically saying that I don't care about the planet I leave behind for your or my kids.

I have been saying all along that this issue is deeper than recycling. It is more telling than unplugging gadgets not in use and not taking 35 minutes showers. It's about waking up. It's about understanding and embracing the fact that we don't own anything here. We are renters and that our lack of respect for the planet and the people inhabiting it will be the thing that takes us down, not simply the temperature or inevitable shortage of water.

The planet will live on in whatever state it is in, however, it is humanity that will suffer. And as I sit and wonder, like so many other people in this country, where are the marchers in the streets, where are the voices screaming for injustices to cease, for greed and apathy to let go of it’s hold, I can only come up with one supposition: Perhaps we have lost our sense of who we were born to be and instead, are numbed out beyond recognition by the ceaseless chatter that is the soundtrack to our lives.

It is my truest fear that we are losing our way. Every night on the stop global warming college tour, Laurie and I would tell these great young people that they have the power to do anything they want. That we all have the power to create a movement for change. That the best part of ourselves is the part that rises up instinctively from compassion. I believe this to be true. I believe that divinity exists in all of us and that if we eliminate some of the chatter in our lives, the voice of compassion will have a chance to be heard. And, if we were to act from a place of compassion in every act of our lives, would we be arguing about whether global warming exists? Or would we simply be living our lives peacefully knowing that how we live will affect the planet we leave for our children and for their children. If compassion was the motivating factor behind all of our decisions, would our world not be a completely different place? Food for thought.

[NEWS] SHERYL AT THE LANCE ARMSTRONG'S FUNDRAISING PARTY

April 30, 2007 - Lance Armstrong hosted a fundraising party on April 27th to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his anti-cancer charity, the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

A barbeque at the retired cyclist’s home in Austin, Texas drew guests including Armstrong’s ex-fiancée Sheryl Crow, Lyle Lovett and Matthew McConaughey, and a total of around $1 million was raised for the Foundation.

Armstrong joined Lovett on stage for two songs, and told the crowd, “I hated losing and I hated rivals. And I despise, detest and hate cancer. This foundation is going to continue to be ruthless and relentless in this fight against cancer.”

[NEWS] JOIN LANCE ARMSTRONG'S ARMY TO FIGHT BREAST CANCER

May 5, 2007 - Lance Armstrong is asking the public to join his foundation’s fight against cancer by signing a petition calling for changes to the US government’s health priorities.

President Bush recently signed a bill to reauthorize the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection program, an initiative that provides free breast and cervical cancer screenings to uninsured and low-income women.

However, current funding will only cover treatment for one in five eligible women. Lance describes this situation as “not good enough”.

In a statement made on behalf of his foundation, Armstrong said, “We know, and the Institute of Medicine confirms, that low-income women are three times more likely to die from breast cancer. Why? This same group is less likely to get screened and more likely to be diagnosed with late-stage cancer. In other words, we could prevent these deaths. In fact, one-third of the 560,000 cancer deaths that occur in the United States each year could be prevented by applying what we already know about prevention, screening and early detection.”

To sign the petition, visit the Lance Armstrong Foundation website at livestrong.org.

I bet there is a woman with a golden heart behind this initiative ;-)

INSULTS

[Q] What the kind of all insults? I particularly like shitflake. MRPINK, ATLANTA

[A] Shitflake? That's pretty good. But I'm an old-fashioned girl -- I like cocksucker. It's classic. But cunt has to be the worst insult. I don't enjoy being called that, although no one has ever called me a cunt to my face. But I bet there are some people who think I am one.

LOL

I love that woman!

(SOME) CATHOLICS PISS ME OFF...

To John F., Debbie R., George T., and Mike W.

Just to be clear:

1) The Cardinal Glennon Children's foundation is actually The Cardinal Glennon Childrens Medical Center;

2) The hospital is run by an independent order (Franciscan Sisters of Mary) and is NOT UNDER DIOCESAN CONTROL. Check your sources, please;

3) Burke is for kids? So, tell me, why undermine a fundraiser designed to benefit children in need? Eh?

4) Sheryl Crow is not an atheist. She's grew up in a Presbyterian family;

5) Sick kids have the priority, period;

6) Boycott my ass. The show was a HUGE, I repeat, HUGE success. Sorry for you!

7) Thanks to God, St. Louis catholics seem to have more brain (and tolerance) than you;

8) To Mike: Sheryl Crow "enemy of the state"? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAH
Dude, you are sick, seriously.

9) Yes, i'm a catholic, but sometimes i disagree with the Church. So, by now, I authorize you to call me "enemy of the church" ;-)

(sorry but i have no time to reply individually)
