NEWS - Sheryl Crow has some fun amid tears at private Houston concert
By Clifford Pugh
03.28.13 | 12:00 pm
Sheryl Crow gave 30 excited Houstonians a preview of
her upcoming country music album at an exclusive private concert at the
Sam Houston Hotel Wednesday.
Houston radio station New 93Q brought the singer to
Houston for the exclusive performance at the tented outdoor Veranda
space of the newly renamed hotel, formerly called The Alden.
Our spies report that
when Crow performed the song, "Waterproof Mascara," many in the audience
teared up and wished they had some on. They also noted that Crow
performed her entire 45-minute set while chewing gum. Now that's
It’s not very country, nor does it
sound far removed from the music she’s been making for two decades now,
but the lead single from Sheryl Crow’s first full-fledged country album
gets several things right.
“Easy” is a laid-back summer song
that’s meant to go down… well… easy. Its aim is not to offer a deep
compelling set of lyrics, but rather it’s mainly about creating the
right feeling – channeling the ideal escapist vibe through the right set
of hooks and melodies.
Crow herself describes “Easy” as “a
song about ‘staycation’ — about staying home when you can’t afford to go
to the Caribbean or wherever or on your yacht. And making your home
feel like you’re getting away.” To that end, the smooth, lazy melody
and tasteful production are a perfect fit. Crow’s delivery of the
chorus conveys a subtle sense of excitement that quietly pulls the
listener in, lending an organic feel to the track as a whole.
Unfortunately, Crow’s limited vocal
range begins working against her as the song near its end, and her
performance becomes shaky and strained as she reaches for notes that
seem somewhat beyond her capabilities. It’s not quite enough to sink
the record entirely, but it does give a rough, choppy ending to what is
mostly smooth sailing up to that point.

Thank you Armen for the great review and for the photos!
Singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow returned to South Florida a month after playing the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach. Her set list for her March 16 show at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida was nearly identical to her previous visit, yet
this was a different experience. As with all casino shows, it was
tightly timed starting at 8 pm and over by quarter to ten, allowing
players to return to the casino floor. Playing electric guitar, acoustic
guitar, and harmonica while handling vocal duties, Crow delivered a
highlight to the Saint Patrick ’s Day weekend activities.
Dressed in a sleeveless top,
skintight black pants, and cowgirl boots, the lovely Miss Crow and her
band tore through a 15-song set that was a blend of greatest hits and
a few new numbers mixed in from her upcoming untitled country themed
release. After playing her hit cover of Cat Sevens’ The First Cut Is the Deepest and introducing the band, an unexpected potential title came from a gentleman up front. As guitars screamed, the man yelled “Play that sh*t, man!” This amused Crow to no end as she repeated it during the show. She even
suggested that it might make for a great title for her new album, if
not for it being unsuitable for Middle America.
As stated this was a different
environment from the theater show at the Kravis last month. This was a
concert atmosphere with an enthusiastic crowd that clapped, danced
and yelled. She got the crowd clapping prior to busting into Shotgun,
a new high-energy gem. Then she said “C’mon let’s get dancing! I’ll
wait for ya!” Always connecting with her audience, Crow chatted often.
Calendar please: Early on when talking to the crowd, she wasn’t sure what night it was, asking “Is this Friday or Saturday night? I’ve been on the tour bus a little too long.”
Radio: The band has been promoting shows by
making the rounds “doing some country radio, where you can still hear
guitar solos and Southern rock.”
Josh’s Factoids: As with last month’s show, Crow checked in with band mate Josh Grange. Josh offers tidbits to the band about each tour stop. Sheryl noted that Josh “has an exceptional aptitude for worthless information.” He offered that Florida means “Feast of Flowers in Spanish.” With the shift to daylight savings time that week, he suggested the band should “set your watch back 7 years” when visiting Florida. Crow noted that “Florida is well-known for its barley pop (beer).”
Mommy’s Job: Prior to playing Real Gone she said that since most of her shows are after her kids are in bed,
they don’t see much of their Mom’s work. Real Gone from the animated
movie Cars soundtrack gave her cool points with her kids.
Security kept a tight grip on the
crowd. Unlike the Kravis show, there were no opportunities to get up
front to the stage at the end. That said it closed strongly with If It Makes You Happy, then an encore of You’re No Good that would make Linda Ronstadt proud and finally Every Day Is a Winding Road to
end it. As the audience left the venue, it was apparent why this
talented genuine performer has had a 20-year long career that has
spanned virtually all musical genres and is beloved by her fans.
Set list: Steve McQueen,
All I Wanna Do, Easy, My Favorite Mistake, Can’t Cry Anymore, A Change
Would Do You Good, The First Cut Is The Deepest, Real Gone, Call Me
When I’m Lonely, Strong Enough, Shotgun, If It Makes You Happy;
Encore: You’re No Good (Ronstadt cover), Every Day Is A Winding Road

“Easy” marks Sheryl’s first single from her upcoming new

As such, “Easy” would fit right in
with the current country-radio format. It’s a breezy ode to carefree
loving, suggesting that quality time at home can be just as fun as time
spent in sunny Mexico or on some island getaway.
Sheryl delivers it with joy and a bit
of playful, sexual overtone. But there’s nothing extraordinary about
the song, with lines like "You make it easy, easy, easy to get away and Sit in the sun and drink beer all day".
It provides the same laid-back vibe and message that we’re hearing from
male acts, and we’ve come to expect a little more in the way of
wordplay from an artist of Sheryl’s stature.
The verse line, We’ll play Jack
Johnson / He’s the new Don Ho, is a sharp observation, but the reference
may be lost on some country listeners.
Vocally, Sheryl is in her usual fine form and sounds totally comfortable here.

REVIEW - Cat Country 107.1 Performance - Fort Myers, FL - 15 March
Sheryl Crow performed a VIP concert this morning in Fort Myers
Sheryl Crow grinned as she took the stage this morning for a VIP concert on Clear Channel Media’s brand-new concert stage.
“I love the stage!” the pop star said and glanced sideways at Todd Nixon, program director for radio station Cat Country.
Then Crow and guitarist Peter Stroud played a couple of acoustic tunes from her upcoming, still-unnamed country album, including new single “Easy,” plus her pop hits “If It Makes You Happy,” “Picture” and “Strong Enough.”
“It sounds pretty frickin’ good up here, Todd!” Crow said, perched on a stool in boots, jeans and a khaki-colored jacket.
“We’re gonna do a 75-minute set,” she joked. “Y’all don’t mind not working today, do you?”
About 100 people attended the short 11 a.m. concert – mostly advertisers and radio listeners who won tickets, said Sherri Griswold, local marketing manager for media company Clear Channel.
Crow fan Kim Cornell, 29, of Fort Myers says she enjoyed the singer-songwriter’s new sound.
“I absolutely love it!” she said. “I think people are really going to embrace it.”
Cornell had never seen Crow perform live, even though she’s been a fan since middle school. “It’s definitely her voice,” she said. “It’s soothing, but still kinda upbeat, laid-back and chill.”
The approximately 20-minute show christened the new Zoom Tan Live Lounge in Clear Channel’s Fort Myers headquarters. Griswold expects to see plenty of other musicians performing VIP concerts there in the coming months.
Crow came there as part of a radio tour promoting “Easy” and the upcoming album.

Sheryl paid a visit to Jacksonville's Country, 99.1 WQIK, to play & chat about her new country music.
She told WQIK's Big Show, that being from a small town in Missouri, they used to say they were so redneck, because she grew up on a pontoon boat. She also divulged that every weekend every summer, they would go barefoot skiing on paddles and eat potted meat and pork rinds and drink Bud Light. -

NEWS - Sheryl Crow Tells KOLR10 Her Springfield Concert Will be a "Crusade"
By: Aaron Nolan
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Sheryl Crow is coming to Springfield April 3 to play a one-of-a-kind show.
On Thursday, she spoke with KOLR10 News about the cause, and just how unique her performance will really be.
"One of the things you do, obviously, when you feel helpless is you just do what you know how to do," she said. "And for me that's playing music."
The April 3 performance at the O'Reilly Family Event Center will be a benefit show for Drew Lewis and his family. He's battling colon cancer and massive medical debt is building. His insurance company has refused to pay for two major surgeries.
"I'm mad that while somebody is struggling for his life, he has to worry about his bills. It does make me angry."
So Drew's family friend, and a cancer survivor herself, will use that emotion to make a difference one note at a time.
"We've all had a somebody in our family or a friend, even ourselves be diagnosed, so it's just a moment for all of us to come together and help somebody. For me personally to play music for a situation like this it is emotional, but it feels like...it is very immediate, and very urgent, and a bit like a crusade."
But her crusading concert for a cure will be unique.
"It's a completely different thing. It is more intimate, more personal. It's going to be, I hope, a really fun evening for people, something really different."
It will be more than a concert. Sheryl Crow will auction off one of her favorite guitars, so it will be a huge night to help Drew Lewis and his family.
However, this family is focused on more. In fact, before the concert, folks can take part in a prevention fair. Drew is hoping to use his story to help others.

NEWS - Sheryl Crow to Headline JazzFest in Sioux Falls, SD
By Janna Farley
Multiple Grammy Award winning performer Sheryl Crow will be the headlining artist at this summer’s JazzFest.
Crow’s concert was announced Thursday morning by Sioux Falls Jazz & Blues. Other acts for the July 18-20 event at Yankton Trail Park will be announced next month.
“Sheryl Crow has created some of the most iconic music over the last 20 years,” said Robert Joyce, executive director for Sioux Falls Jazz & Blues. “Her tunes are fun. They’re memorable. She’s a crowd favorite around the world, and we’re pleased to welcome her to JazzFest. She will definitely draw a crowd.”
Midcontinent Communications is supporting Crow’s performance.
Midcontinent has been a JazzFest sponsor for more than 15 years, but last year, the cable TV, Internet, video and telephone company decided to step up its support to bring in Joe Walsh. Walsh’s performance drew 75,000 people – the biggest one-night JazzFest crowd ever, Joyce said.
“It’s our privilege to help the Jazz and Blues Society attract an artist of the caliber of Sheryl Crow,” said Tom Simmons, Midcontinent’s senior vice president of public policy. “This is our way to give back to the community … our opportunity to support what has become the signature event in Sioux Falls.”
“Concerts and events like this are truly appreciated by our friends and neighbors in the region,” Simmons added. “Why would we not want to be a part of it?"
Though Joyce wouldn’t provide a specific dollar amount, Crow “is the most expensive artist we’ve brought in to date,” Joyce said. Without Midcontinent’s support, he said, Crow’s performance wouldn’t be possible. “JazzFest is free and we want to keep it that way.”
Fans were thrilled to hear about Crow’s appearance.
“She just has great music,” said Beth Reitzel. “She appeals to all ages and genres. She’s going to bring a diverse crowd out.”
Crow shot to stardom with her seven-times platinum debut album, “Tuesday Night Music Club,” which included the hit songs “All I Wanna Do," “Strong Enough,” “Can’t Cry Anymore” and “Leaving Las Vegas.” She followed up that album with more chart-topping songs, including “If It Makes You Happy,” “Everyday Is A Winding Road” and “My Favorite Mistake.”
Crow has performed duets with Sting and Mick Jagger. She has also launched her own clothing line, Bootheel Trading Co., and is a cancer survivor.
