[NEWS] SHERYL CROW AND COLBIE CAILLAT ROCK FOR CHARLOTTESVILLE

From the Hook
by Stephanie Garcia

The Charlottesville Free Clinic, which has served more than 11,000 uninsured patients during its nearly 20-year run (and seems to have been a bit ahead of the “universal health care” curve), has attracted the attention of politically active pop-rock star Sheryl Crow— so much so that the 48-year-old musician plans on headlining the Clinic’s 7th annual Benefit Concert at the Charlottesville Pavilion June 21.

[...]

The altruistic rocker will perform alongside California pop star and Grammy winner Colbie Caillat.

[...]

The free clinic runs largely through volunteers, offering primary health care and basic dental services to Charlottesville’s uninsured. The past six benefit concerts have raised over $750,000 in medical services for area families. Tickets go on sale April 16 at 10am for $35-68.

[VIDEO] COUGAR TOWN - EPISODE 1.18 - SNEAK PEEK (WITH SHERYL)

[REVIEWS] 2010 WORLD WATER DAY CELEBRATION CONCERT

"This was the second time I had seen Sheryl live and she was phenomenal. She did a lot of her hits and favorites. She looked amazing and seemed seemed to be having a great time talking about the corns on her feet in between sets. The crowd fed off her energy and no one wanted her to leave the stage. My favorite number was Soak Up the Sun, but all of them were amazing. I am definitely looking forward to Sheryl’s next album, but for now, I will keep her old ones on repeat."

Source: www.godonyc.com

"Great Show. A little short, but great show. Probably just seemed short, becus iy=t was so good it goes so fast. Great sound, great lighting & good song selection (except for the oncore: Led Zep's Rock'nRoll - Sheryl's songs are so much better!). Here's a list of tunes I could remember, not in any special order: Opened with A change will do you good, Winding Road, Soak up the Sun, If It makes You Happy, My Fav mistake, Can't Cry Anymore, Out of our heads, detours, first cut is the deepest, anything but down, (one cover tune that I don't know & maybe one more song?) one encore: Rock'n'roll"

"Yes, fantastic show--just wish it had been longer! I ended up catching 2 of her picks, and she signed one after the show--she never disappoints!!! tonight was the funniest I've ever seen her--she was a real comedian up there.

Let's see...I'll try to remember what they said. First of all, Tim was commenting on Sheryl's kick-ass shoes. They were really high--could not have been comfortable. She said she wears them because she's vertically challenged, and "no pain, no gain." She then admitted that she has corns and wondered if Prince has corns, since he wears high-heels like that. Then someone in the audience yelled out that Lenny Kravitz is short too, and Sheryl said something like, "NO, Lenny Kravitz isn't short. Actually, I'm totally talking out of my ass. I have no idea if he's short." When she introduced the band, she asked Tim (in a joking way, of course) how he spent his summer vacation, to which he replied, "I was in summer school." Then she said that Peter had just gotten back from Japan with her, and she asked him what his favorite part of Japan was. Someone in the audience yelled out sushi, so he said, "Sushi at 6am." Then Sheryl teased him for getting help from the audience (I think she called the audience his lifeline). Then she introduced Jeremy and told us how much she likes his hat, which is from the Gap in Japan. He didn't say much, so Sheryl said that he hasn't learned English yet. I can't seem to remember what Mike said. When someone brought Sheryl a bottle of Poland Springs, she started gulping it and breathing really heavily into the mic, saying how much she loves water--it was really funny. Then, after the Crystal Light presentation, Sheryl said to the Nature Conservancy folks, "You guys are going to play a few tunes now, right?" It was so funny...and when they just kinda laughed, Sheryl said, "Now get off my stage!!" Anyone else remember anything else good?"

By emyliaronson (SC official forum)

"The show was great. We got there 45min early (not enough time) but waited until 730pm in partial rain. I think they were taking news pictures in the lobby. I did get as close as I could to the stage. I was up front and I'm on video (Good thing he was using a diffuser) somewhere. I could tell she was tired but she did push herself to put on a good show. Showing her personality. I can't remember everything but she introduced each member of the band. The funniest part was when she introduced Jerome (Drummer) and his hat. He fumbled the words and she said he doesn't speak English yet. lol She cracks me up and it was fun to see them ad libbing on stage. Really there is nothing she can say wrong so why not go for it. It's all in good fun. After they presented the 50,000 check to Crystal light, she told them to get off her stage now. lol Then she said that the organizers would sing a song for us. Too funny! She was more comfortable than I've ever seen her, putting a humorous spin on everything. Changing the show to a little to more than just a concert. I enjoyed it. She was so comfortable that she was a little naked without jewelry. (Hee hee I noticed.)

The music sounded great and they did a nice job with the lighting. I loved to hear "Good is Good" and it almost brought tears." No One said It Was Easy" was great too. All dramatic and beautiful. Her emotional songs are my favorite and I am so glad she through some in. I hope you can see the nice lighting in the photo's. It's amazing what you can do with a little point and shoot artistically. I am only disappointed that I did not stick around. I almost did but thought she wouldn't come out. So SHIT! I screwed up. Hope you like the pictures. I can't wait for the new spin on the new album and more tour dates! I think I'll stick around....... I'm so disappointed that I didn't !!"

[NEWS] SHERYL CROW: SON A REASON TO BE "GREEN" - CBS NEWS

Proceeds from the Singer's New York Concert on March 22 Will Benefit the Protection of U.S. Lakes and Rivers

By Jessica Derschowitz

Sheryl Crow has always advocated for environmental issues, and now she is taking to the stage for the cause.

Crow is performing at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom on Monday, March 22, to mark World Water Day, which calls attention to the preservation and cleanup of the world's water sources. All proceeds from the ticket sales will go to the Nature Conservancy, and the funds will help support river and lake projects across the United States to help protect those sources of clean, fresh drinking water.

Agreeing to perform for the cause wasn't a hard decision for the nine-time Grammy winner.

"I've been an environmentalist for a long time," she said. "The Nature Conservancy relies on people's donations…it just seemed like a really easy thing to do."

The Nature Conservancy, she continued, works at the local level to help educate corporations and people about how to clean up their water resources.

"It's an extremely important issue," she stressed.

Crystal Light, which teamed up with the Nature Conservancy for a year-long partnership that includes Crow's concert, is also hoping to make a splash on World Water Day. The company is donating all the profits from the sale of its products on March 22 to the Nature Conservancy - up to $750,000.

Crow, who is working on a new album she said will be out in May or June, added that her son, 2-year-old Wyatt, also fuels her desire to advocate for water preservation and other environmentalist causes.

"There's a new urgency about it, now that he's here," she said. "He will be here after I'm gone, and his kids, too."

Now is an important time for people to get involved in protecting the environment, Crow said, including the world's water resources.

"I think we're at a turning point where people can really make a difference."

[NEWS] SHERYL CROW HEADS TO COUGAR TOWN - TV GUIDE MAGAZINE

Sheryl Crow Heads to Cougar Town
by Scott Huver, published on TV Guide Magazine on March 8th, 2010

A new she-cat’s about to be prowling Cougar Town, and series star Courteney Cox Arquette is singing the praises of her famous friend-turned-co-star.

Nope, it’s not Jennifer Aniston (not just yet, anyway – more on that in a bit). Another of Cox Arquette’s behind-the-scenes besties is moving in: rock star Sheryl Crow, who just shot an upcoming three-episode arc playing a love interest for Courteney’s character Jules’ TV neighbor Grayson (Josh Hopkins).

“I thought she was just great,” Cox Arquette told TV Guide Magazine at the PaleyFest tribute to the ABC series in Beverly Hills. “She’s really a gorgeous, talented beautiful person in her heart, and she’s just kind of so comfortable in her skin, and I was really proud of her.”

“She plays a wine vendor, and she comes in and sells my character wine at the bar,” revealed Hopkins. “She challenges my character, who’s always with these young women. She challenges him intellectually, in a way that he hasn't been. And so he changes his ways and decides to date someone his own age.”

Hopkins says Jules, given her will-they, won’t-they dynamic with Grayson, has a “mixed” reaction to his romance with Crow’s character. “She gives him some tips as to how to act to keep her, but then once it works she’s a little disappointed.”

Crow found her acting feet immediately, reports Hopkins. “She came in hitting the punch lines all the way. I think there is always an aspect of ‘the first day of school’ for anybody, and that’s not what she’s used to doing, but she was so good it was annoying!”

And Crow’s also bringing her musical A-game to the show. “I'd never expect this to happen in my life, but we do a duet,” added a still-addled Hopkins. “And me not being a singer, that was stressful. But she definitely took the pressure off. She’s like a singing ninja. She can do anything, like ‘Oh, you want to sing there? Then I’ll cover you and sing this.’ My head was spinning.”

Co-star Christa Miller got a kick out of watching the musical moment come together. “They taught her a song in, like, two seconds, and Josh of course took the whole day to learn it.” And the rocker thrilled the cast with more a impromptu performance when cameras weren’t rolling, said Miller. “You never want to say, ‘Hey, do some music,’ but she was playing and we said ‘Hey, do some music,’ and she did and it was amazing!”

“Sheryl is one of Courteney’s old friends and easily the nicest rock star of all the rock stars I know,” said Cougar Town’s executive producer Bill Lawrence. “And if she loses her day job, she could definitely do this again.”

And Lawrence publicly answered the burning question on everyone’s mind: will Courteney’s other Friend – with a capital “f” – be making a much-rumored appearance?

“Jennifer Aniston is going to be on the show next year!” he confirmed – kind of. Said Lawrence, Aniston “does not know it yet, so don’t say anything! But Courteney promised me as a birthday gift she’d make that happen, and I think that’s super-sweet.”

[LIVE REVIEW] TOKYO, JAPAN - MARCH 2

March 2, 2010, Tokyo, Japan
Venue: Tokyo Kokusai Forum Hall

Courtesy of amongthemoltitude (Hilda)

--

I just came back from Tokyo where I saw Sheryl and the boys after a long winter. YAY!

Last time I saw them was December 2008, at the JCB Hall, in Tokyo. No opening act, started at 7:00 sharp, they sang 19 songs! And it was a blast!

Well, tonight Sheryl shared the stage with Jackson Browne. I don’t know much about him. Checked some of his stuff a few days before the gig. He’s good. But I was anxious to see the “good stuff”. He said twice how happy he was to be back to Japan, “especially to share the stage with Sheryl. I admire her since the beginning”. He has a lot of followers here. He said something funny. He told us that a few years back he was taught how to say “thank you” in Japanese, which is “arigatou”. But then he asked how to say “thank you very, very, very much”. Some smarta** told him “ohayou gozaimasu”, which means “good morning”. So he kept saying “ohayou gozaimasu”. He sang for an hour and a half! I thought he was just opening, but he was, indeed, “sharing” the stage!

They took around 20 minutes to rearrange the whole stage. It’s impressive how quick they are. Kudos to the roadies and stage managers!

Then she came. She opened with a kick a** version of “A Change” and kept most of the people standing. This is a really difficult task. Japanese people sit through gigs and eventually, only eventually, stand up. A lot of people were on their feet the whole gig. I was amazed to see it.

She sang some “oldies but goodies”, including “I Can’t Cry Anymore” (she kinda made fun of MJ, which was funny), “Leaving Las Vegas” and “Strong Enough”.  It was a nice surprise to hear “Home”. That song reminds me of that gig at the Venetian, in Las Vegas, a few years back. We, the forumers, had the worst seats ever, but during that song we were invited to go to the front.  Remember that, Gregg? She sang “Real Gone” and it kinda replaced “Steve McQueen”, it’s great to hear “new stuff”.

The whole gang was here. Tim, Peter, Mike (properly introduced with his glass of red wine), Jeremy, Ricky, and the backing vocals whose names I can’t recall (sorry). Actually, the last time they came here, the backing vocals “shared” the stage during Stevie’s “Higher Ground”. This time around they didn’t. Too bad, they’re really good. Actually Jackson’s backing vocals did a tremendous job during his act.

Sheryl said that Wyatt was around a year old the last time she came and now he’s about two and a half. So this time he enjoyed the parks and started messing with his itouch/ipod looking for games :0) Oh, kids of the new milenium hahaha

At the encore, she called Jackson back to the stage and they rocked the house with “Doctor, my eyes” (yay, I haven’t heard that live before). And kicked a** with Costello’s “Love, Peace and Understanding”.

A great gig! It lasted more than three hours! I missed my train back home! (a friend came to my rescue and picked me up in a city close to mine – I live about an hour and a half from Tokyo, by train). But I could have slept in the street, I wouldn’t mind. I’m sooo happy!  I wish I could see them more often!

Well, that’s it for tonight. I’m glad I was able to make it! It’s very late and I have work tomorrow. I’ll write more later, if I remember anything else…

Hugs,
Hilda
