[NEWS] DOES SHERYL CROW MARK NEW DIRECTION FOR CAPITAL HOEDOWN?

Sheryl Crow has been added to the lineup for Capital Hoedown 2012, the weekend-long country-music festival in Ottawa. Crow will play the third and final day of the festival on Aug. 12.

It’s an intriguing development for the Hoedown, as Crow is a musician who can appeal to people who have no interest in the new-country sound that has so far been the Hoedown’s raison d’etre. Taylor Swift, Brad Paisley et al – already announced for next year’s lineup – are more typical of the sound the festival has offered in its first couple of years. While the sound has plenty of fans, it is anathema to many other music lovers, myself among them, who can’t bear to hear the uninspired, fabricated sounds of the new-country genre.

Crow, at least, widens the variety of music on offer, and her addition could be a seminal moment, a sign of a new and expanding direction for the Hoedown. Crow isn’t enough to get me out to Kanata for the festival, but she will draw some fans who otherwise ignored the Hoedown, and she will lead others, like me, to pay more attention to the lineup.

[NEWS] SHERYL CROW ADDED TO CAPITAL HOEDOWN'S STAR-STUDDLED LINE-UP

OTTAWA, CANADA, Dec 07, 2011 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Editors Note: There is a photo associated with this press release.

Concert International Inc. is pleased to announce the addition of award winning music artist Sheryl Crow to the Capital Hoedown 2012 schedule. Sheryl Crow will be part of the Sunday evening line-up that includes Brad Paisley.

Crow literally grew up in a small town 100 miles from Memphis- something that informed not only her musical taste, but also how she looks at life. "The music that came out of that part of the world is a part of who I am," Crow has said. The Missouri native rose to prominence when her debut album Tuesday Night Music Club began climbing the charts in 1994, fueled by the success of the single "Leaving Las Vegas." That debut album received five nominations at the Grammy Awards in 1995, winning Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Record of the Year, and Best New Artist. Crow has won a total of 9 Grammy Awards from 32 nominations, and has also been awarded by the American Music Awards, ASCAP Awards, Orville H. Gibson Awards, and People's Choice Awards.

Sheryl joins a star-studded lineup of artists performing at Capital Hoedown on August 10, 11, and 12 including super star Taylor Swift, along with Reba, Brad Paisley, The Band Perry, Ronnie Dunn, Terri Clark, Gord Bamford, Dean Brody, Tara Oram, Marshall Dane, Chad Brownlee and High Valley. Additional country music icons will be announced leading up to the festival.

The 3-day Crazy Horse VIP Corral, 3-day Front & Centre VIP, 3-day General Admission passports and single day tickets for Capital Hoedown 2012 are available through CapitalHoedown.net.

Friday, August 10 - Reba, Ronnie Dunn, Gord Bamford, and Marshall Dane

Saturday, August 11 - Taylor Swift, Dean Brody, Tara Oram, Chad Brownlee, and others TBA

Sunday, August 12 - Brad Paisley, Sheryl Crow, The Band Perry, Terri Clark, High Valley and others TBA

2 CD

Band:

Sheryl Crow: vocals, guitar, accordion, Wurlitzer piano, concert piano, bass, harmonica
Peter Stroud: guitar, vocals
Keith Gattis: guitar, pedal steel, banjo, mandolin, bass, vocals

Lineage: SP CMC-25 mics > SP SB-11 battery box (no rolloff) > Sony PCM-D50 > SoundForge > CDWave > TLH > FLAC

Note from the Taper: This is the second of three sold-out-within-minutes "Acoustic Christmas" benefit shows for the New Hope Academy in Franklin, TN (http://www.nhafranklin.org/)... at the beautiful, historic and very intimate 300-seat Franklin Theatre. It was a lot like Sheryl and her cohorts performing in your living room - very informal and relaxed with plenty of laughs and banter, yet Ms. Crow's performance and voice were SEARING. All proceeds benefited the New Hope Academy, and Sheryl donated one of her own stage/studio guitars for auction after the main portion of the show. The auction was pretty entertaining...
