[NEWS] Sheryl featured on the "Orthophonic Joy: The 1927 Bristol Sessions Revisited" album
Bristol, VA/TN -- The Birthplace of Country Music is pleased to announce that the Orthophonic Joy: The 1927 Bristol Sessions Revisited album will be released on Tuesday, May 12, 2015. Celebrating the impact that the 1927 Bristol Sessions had on the country music industry, Orthophonic Joy: The 1927 Bristol Sessions Revisited features re-creations of the original Bristol Sessions recordings by country music stars including, Ashley & Shannon Campbell, Ashley Monroe, Brad Paisley, Carl Jackson, Corbin Hayslett, Dolly Parton, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Emmylou Harris, Jesse McReynolds, Keb´ Mo´, Larry Cordle & The Virginia Luthiers, Marty Stuart, Sheryl Crow, Steve Martin & the Steep Canyon Rangers, The Chuck Wagon Gang, The Church Sisters, The Shotgun Rubies, and Vince Gill. The recording project also includes narration of the 1927 Bristol Sessions history by famed Opry host Eddie Stubbs.
Also known as the "Big Bang of Country Music," the legendary recordings by Ralph Peer took country music to a new level and produced pioneers of the genre, such as Jimmie Rodgers and the Carter Family. Johnny Cash referred to this event as "the single most important event in the history of country music."
Timeless, haunting, and powerful, Orthophonic Joy re-imagines the iconic recordings that created the “Big Bang” of country music and catapulted The Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers to stardom. Produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Carl Jackson, these songs are accompanied by narration from longtime Grand Ole Opry host Eddie Stubbs and their enduring beauty shines through. Not only does this album pay homage to the original recordings, it is destined to stir a re-awakening within the industry the 1927 Bristol Sessions helped shape.
Carl Jackson says, "So proud that Orthophonic Joy is just about to hit the streets on May 12th. It's been a better than two year process... a real labor of love. Many thanks to all the great artists... true friends, who so graciously have given their incredible talents to the project. The same goes for all the wonderful folks at the tourism departments of both Tennessee and Virginia, as well as those at the Birthplace of Country Music... You all believed in this from the very start and your support is so greatly appreciated. Finally... to my ole buddy, Rusty Morrell... I hope this makes your dream finally into a reality."
Orthophonic Joy: The 1927 Bristol Sessions Revisited is now available for pre-order through both Amazon and iTunes. In addition to these sellers, after May 12 the album will be available for purchase in The Museum Store at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum and in select stores.

This Smithsonian Institution-affiliated Birthplace of Country Music Museum is dedicated to preserve the legacy of the 1927 Bristol Sessions and their lasting influence on American popular music. Johnny Cash referred to the famous Sessions as “The single most important event in the history of country music.” Also known as the “Big Bang of Country Music,” the legendary recordings by Ralph Peer took country music to a new level and produced pioneers of the genre, such as Jimmie Rodgers and the Carter Family.
Orthophonic Joy: The 1927 Bristol Sessions Revisited, features entertainment legend Dolly Parton, as well as country music stars Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, Marty Stuart, Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers and Ashley Monroe. The recording project includes 16 of the original songs from the Bristol Sessions.
The idea to recreate the 1927 Bristol Sessions had been discussed within the Birthplace of Country Music organization for years, but the serendipitous connection between board member John Rainero, veteran songwriter Rusty Morrell and Grammy-winning producer Carl Jackson helped bring Orthophonic Joy: The 1927 Bristol Sessions Revisited to life. With support from the Virginia Tourism Corporation, Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, Bristol Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Birthplace of Country Music, the album was created and produced throughout 2014 and early 2015.
“My dear friend Rusty Morrell approached me with the idea to produce a project honoring the original 1927 Bristol Sessions,” Jackson said. “He was very aware and fond of a couple of other multi-artist ‘tribute’ projects I had produced and felt I was the guy who could bring his vision to life. In my opinion, the importance of those ’27 recordings cannot be overstated, and I am truly honored that Rusty asked me to shine a new and loving light on some of those classic works.”
“In Tennessee, we like to say the music is ‘in the water.’ It flows from every corner of the state, from cities like Nashville, Memphis, and Bristol and small towns like Brownsville, Smithville and Franklin,” said Commissioner Kevin Triplett, Tennessee Department of Tourist Development. “Entertainment icons Dolly Parton, Sheryl Crow, Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris and Marty Stuart are breathing new life into the 1927 Bristol Sessions. The Orthophonic Joy project is a vivid reminder of our musical roots and will inspire future generations of music makers and fans.”
“The music still comes out of the hills as a new generation of performers take mountain music back into the mainstream,” said Rita McClenny, president and CEO of Virginia Tourism Corporation. “It can be heard at general stores, barber shops, ice cream stands, small town theaters, and front porches throughout the region. Visitors can easily meet the musicians and presenters, some of whom are direct descendants of some of the most famous names in the genre. This experience is not manufactured. It is unquestionably an authentic Virginia—and American—experience.”
“This album further establishes why Bristol is known as the Birthplace of Country Music,” said Matt Bolas, executive director of the Bristol Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Bristol’s music heritage draws visitors from around the world, and this album along with the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Music Festival, year round live music and concerts, and the Birthplace of Country Music Museum amplifies why Bristol is a music destination.”
In the spirit of Ralph Peer, Jackson and the Birthplace of Country Music organization is launching a nationwide search for a new artist to record the final track on the album. Emerging and independent artists may submit ONE of the following selected Bristol Sessions songs: “The Storms Are On the Ocean,” “Darling Cora,” “Bury Me Under the Weeping Willow,” or “I Am Bound For The Promised Land.” Deadline to receive submissions is July 10. Four artists will be selected for Jackson and a panel of judges to review. For a complete list of contest rules, visit www.BirthplaceofCountryMusic.org.
“The 1927 Bristol Sessions have often been honored for their impact on the world’s music,” said Leah Ross, executive director, Birthplace of Country Music. “With the opening of the Museum, the release of Orthophonic Joy, and the nationwide search for new talent, BCM and the team of irreplaceable partners who are part of these endeavors are ensuring the legacy of the 1927 Bristol Sessions lives on for generations to come.”
The album is currently available for pre-orders through Amazon and iTunes. The album will also be available for purchase at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum on May 12, 2015.

[VIDEO] Sheryl Crow on Rebuilding New Orleans & Blue Jeans Go Green
This year will mark the 10-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina devastating New Orleans.
The New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity has been an integral part of getting the city back on its feet.
This year, Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow is joining the build. Today, she's talking about the Build-A-Thon, which aims to build 10 houses in 10 days on America Street in New Orleans East, marking the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina's destruction of much of New Orleans' housing.
She also issues a call to action by asking viewers to recycle their unwanted jeans and other denim apparel to the Blue Jeans Go Green™ program, which will facilitate converting the denim into housing insulation for the ten New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity homes being built. The goal for the collection is 10,000 denim items.
Created in 2006 by Cotton Incorporated, the Blue Jeans Go Green™ denim recycling program is a call-to-action to recycle denim and give it "new life" by converting it to UltraTouch™ Denim Insulation.
To date, the program has collected more than 1 million pieces of denim.
These efforts have diverted over 600 tons of waste out of landfills and have generated approximately 2 million square feet of UltraTouch™ Denim Insulation, much of which assisted in building efforts for communities in need with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity.
Sheryl Crow is a nine-time Grammy winner who has sold more than 35 million albums around the world and has performed duets with musical luminaries such as Sting and Mick Jagger, has been nominated for an additional 27 Grammy's and has released eight studio albums (seven charting Top 10, four of them platinum-plus), a quadruple-platinum greatest hits collection and a Christmas album.
Crow is a passionate supporter of a variety of environmental and health-related charities, including The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, The NRDC, The World Food Program, Feeding America and Cotton's Blue Jeans Go Green™ Denim Recycling Program.

[NEWS] Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow part of Franklin's Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival
Another music festival is making its debut in Middle Tennessee and paying homage to history.
The Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival will launch in September with a lineup that includes Willie Nelson, Weezer, Sheryl Crow, Neko Case, Iron & Wine and Jimmy Cliff, among others. It will be held at the Park at Harlinsdale Farm in Franklin.
Better than Ezra singer Kevin Griffin said last year that he got the idea for the festival one day while jogging through the 200-acre former Tennessee Walking Horse farm.
"I had this kind of epiphany surrounded by those rolling hills and natural amphitheaters: This is the perfect setting for an amazing, unique music festival," Griffin said in a Tennessean story in October.
At the time, the festival's organizers estimated that crowds could top 15,000 each day.
Organizers said today that many of the acts will be performing acoustically and will do so on wood-clad stages. There will also be several collaborations among the artists.
Food will also play a role with a "Kitchen Stage."
The festival will be held Sept. 26-27. According to its website, two-day general admission passes will cost $169.
Harlinsdale farm's expansive green lawns and historic barns are also set to serve as the backdrop for the Americana Music Association's Cross County Lines festival on May 30.
It will be the second time that event — which organizers said on an event permit is expected to draw more than 5,000 — will be held at the park.

[NEWS/VIDEO] Sheryl Crow Wants Your Jeans
NEW YORK, April 21, 2015 /Nassau News Live/ — Ten years. Ten days. Ten homes.
Ten-thousand jeans. On behalf of the Cotton Incorporated Blue Jeans Go Green™ denim recycling program, nine-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow is asking consumers to recycle their unwanted denim to help rebuild New Orleans, an area still feeling the repercussions of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Blue Jeans Go Green™ has set a collection goal of 10,000 pieces of denim, which will be transformed into UltraTouch™ Denim Insulation by manufacturing partner Bonded Logic, Inc., and then provided to a ten-home Build-A-Thon being conducted by New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity set for May 20 – 30.
Over the past 40 years, U.S. cotton growers have reduced pesticide applications by 50%, reduced irrigation water applications by 40%, and have grown twice as much cotton on 30% less acreage. Sheryl Crow, who was born and raised in the Cotton Belt state of Missouri, supports the Blue Jeans Go Green™ initiative, which brings the environmental gains cotton growers have made in the field full-circle by diverting textiles from landfills and helping to rebuild communities.
“I hope to influence as many people as possible to recycle their denim through the Blue Jeans Go Green™ program,” said Crow. “It’s a really simple way to help the environment, help communities in need and complete an environmental cycle that begins on the farm and ends with us. To think that my old jeans could help insulate a house is just an incredible idea, I’m excited to work with Cotton Incorporated on this initiative.”
Since 2006, the Cotton Incorporated Blue Jeans Go Green™ program has helped rebuild communities by providing hundreds of thousands of square feet of UltraTouch™ Denim Insulation to Habitat for Humanity affiliates around the country. Over that time span the program has diverted more than one million pieces of denim — roughly 600 tons — from landfills, and created approximately two million square feet of insulation for communities in need.
“The average consumer owns seven pairs of jeans,” says Andrea Samber, co-director of Strategic Alliances at Cotton Incorporated. “Giving just one of them to the recycling drive can make a big difference in a family’s life.” Information on where to recycle denim through Blue Jeans Go Green™ can be found at www.bluejeansgogreen.org.
Samber explains that the program has a long history in the New Orleans area. “Participating in a Habitat for Humanity build there in 2007 was one of the first activities of Blue Jeans Go Green™. Since then we have given just over half a million square feet to the Gulf South, alone. We’re happy to still be involved, and to be collaborating with New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity on this ambitious ten-home, ten-day Build-A-Thon.”
“New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity is thrilled to have Blue Jeans Go Green™ support our efforts to build ten houses in ten days to mark the tenth anniversary of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita,” said Jim Pate, Executive Director of NOAHH.“By providing insulation for our build, the program is making a significant contribution to affordable housing and sustainable living that will positively affect families in New Orleans for generations to come. We are also very grateful to Sheryl Crow for her leadership and participation,” he said.
More than 600 volunteers will come together in New Orleans to participate in the ten-day build on America Street. Included will be 500 active service AmeriCorps volunteers, as well as alumni and other volunteer groups from around the country that will all will be reuniting in New Orleans for the Build-A-Thon.
