In addition to a score by Randy Newman, the Walt Disney Records soundtrack for the Disney/Pixar film "Cars" boasts new songs by Brad Paisley, Sheryl Crow and James Taylor, who performs the Newman-penned, "Our Town." The album is due June 6; the film arrives three days later in U.S. theaters.

Paisley wrote and recorded the songs "Behind the Clouds" and "Find Yourself" for the soundtrack, while Crow adds "Real Gone," a song she co-wrote with John Shanks.

As for covers, Rascal Flatts tackles the hit "Life Is a Highway," which Tom Cochrane took to No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1992. John Mayer performs the Bobby Troup classic "Route 66," which can be heard in one of the film's trailers on Pixar's Website. A vintage Chuck Berry version of the song is also included on the soundtrack.

Eleven cuts on the 20-track set are Newman's score, with the balance rounded out by the Chords' "Sh-Boom" and Hank Williams' "My Heart Would Know."

"Cars" features the voice talents of Owen Wilson, Bonnie Hunt, Cheech Marin, Paul Newman, Bob Costas, John Ratzenberger and Larry the Cable Guy.

Gibson: Il mito vibra ancora

FABBRICA A NASHVILLE

WAL-MART PHASING OUT FIREARM SALES

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said on Friday it is phasing out sales of firearms in about a quarter of its U.S. stores, calling it a decision based on soft demand.

"As a retailer, we make business decisions every day on what products to offer our customers, based on customer demand," the company said in a statement. "In order for each of our stores to be a 'store of the community' and offer merchandise relevant to that specific community ... we recently made a business decision to no longer offer firearms in approximately 1,000 of our locations."

Wal-Mart said it began phasing out firearms sales earlier this year but did not disclose the store locations.

"In stores where there is sufficient demand, nothing will change," the retailer said. "We will continue to evaluate our merchandise selection store by store to make sure we remain relevant to the majority of our customers."

Gun sales and Wal-Mart were linked in a song co-written by Sheryl Crow in an album released last fall. When the retailer refused to carry the album, it drew criticism for censorship.

The offending lyrics -- "Watch out sister/Watch out brother/Watch our children as they kill each other/with a gun they bought at the Wal-Mart discount stores" -- were part of a song called "Love is a Good Thing."

Wal-Mart defended itself by calling the comments unfair and irresponsible, saying it strictly prohibits selling guns to minors.

The company has been expanding into urban areas and changing its image with a new push into organic foods and running ads in Vogue magazine.

Wal-Mart has 3,800 stores in the United States and more than 2,600 in Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Germany, Guatemala, Honduras, Japan, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, South Korea and the United Kingdom.

SHERYL, THE QUEEN?

Rodgers knows who can replace him

Paul Rodgers closed out his year-long run with Brian May and Roger Taylor on Thursday, April 13th, as the Queen + PR tour wrapped in Vancouver, British Columbia. Fans got to see Rodgers do songs made famous by the late Freddie Mercury, which might have been the hardest job in rock, and it's made him think about who could do his career justice. The singer told us that he's not going away anytime soon, but when that day comes, he knows who would be a good fit to replace him: "I think maybe Sheryl Crow could do the job. She's a great singer, she's got a lot of heart and soul, and she's a great songwriter, too. But I plan on sticking around, don't you worry!"

Rodgers has started booking solo dates, now that his schedule has opened up. His first show is May 20th in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

OVERWHELMING FENWAY DEMAND

Unforeseen demand for the July 7-8th Dave Matthews Band and Sheryl Crow concert at Fenway Park in Boston, MA has the Warehouse biting its tongue. Today in an email to members who requested tickets the Warehouse announced cutting tickets back from what people requested and preparing people to be declined, saying "There is a good chance that many requests will not be fulfilled for this show." This comes as a surprise to both fans and the band management as they initially allowed members to order up to 4 tickets to the ~50,000 capacity show. Those that requested 3 or 4 tickets for night one will automatically be changed to a 2 ticket request and VIP tickets for night two over 2 will be changed also.

One wonders about Warehouse members who elected to order tickets along with another member as a group of 4 with the intention of sitting together (a feature many fans wish existed for other concerts). Looks like such Warehouse member is out of luck and effectively been declined for tickets without even a chance. As it stands now all you can do is edit or cancel your request if you wish.

The demand for Fenway tickets will likely push 2005 Warehouse Packages back further until October. We're kidding; at least we hope we are.

WILDFLOWER: A SOUNDSTAGE SPECIAL EVENT

Soundstage: Sheryl Crow, Wildflower Tour From New York

Soundstage traveled from their home studios in Chicago, IL to New York City to capture a special evening of intimate music by nine-time Grammy winner Sheryl Crow. Backed by a 16-piece string section led by famed conductor David Campbell, the special provides an extraordinary look at the many facets of Crow's career and talent.

In this exclusive performance, Crow performs songs from her critically acclaimed 2005 release, Wildflower, including the title cut, "Good is Good," and "Always on Your Side." She also digs deep into her catalog with a few of the good-time rockers and profound ballads that have made her one of the most popular mainstream rockers of the last decade, including "If It Makes You Happy," "All I Wanna Do," and "Every Day is a Winding Road."

Since exploding onto the global pop stage in 1993 with the multi-platinum Tuesday Night Music Club album, the one-time music teacher and studio vocalist has become one of the most celebrated singer/songwriters in rock n' roll. However, with the release of Wildflower, Crow took a dramatic new direction with a collection of introspective compositions, heavier on string arrangements rather than guitar solos. In her second SOUNDSTAGE appearance, Crow and string arranger Campbell, bring a new approach to viewers, who will see Crow as they have never seen her before.

SHERYL CROW AQUATIC CENTER COMMITTEE ARE RECIPIENT OF COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD

Daily Dunklin Democrat Publisher Bud Hunt, right, awards the publication's 17th annual Community Service Award to Bernice Crow, second from right, who accepts the honor on behalf of her daughter, Sheryl Crow, and the Sheryl Crow Aquatic Center Committee. Attending the ceremony at the newspaper's office are, from left, the committee's Melinda Harris; Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jan McElwrath; committee Chairman Matt Shetley; and Sheryl Crow's father, Kennett attorney and musician Wendell Crow.

Kennett's Sheryl Crow and the Sheryl Crow Aquatic Center Committee were honored Thursday as recipients of The Daily Dunklin Democrat's 17th annual Community Service Award. Publisher Bud Hunt awarded the honor to the Grammy-award winning musician's parents, Wendell and Bernice Crow, at a ceremony at the publication's Kennett office.

"We wanted to honor Sheryl and the committee for all they've done for the community," Hunt said. "That project was the impetus for many other downtown revitalization endeavors -- work that will continue for another year. The singer's father, Wendell Crow, was ecstatic. "It's just fantastic,' he said. "She'll really be appreciative of this award. "This is her home," Wendell Crow continued. "She loves it." Bernice Crow agreed, and said it is fitting that both her daughter and the committee share the award equally.

"It is very appropriate," Bernice Crow said. "I'm sure she'll be as thrilled as we all are." McElwrath said the singer facilitated a real attraction to the city -- one that will serve many people, and will last a very long time.

"This is just wonderful," McElwrath said. "People who pass by the area now can see a number of construction projects ongoing. "We're getting things done in time for the pool's re-opening on Memorial Day weekend," she added. "The parking lots, walking trail and the park area will be a great addition to the aquatic center." Sheryl Crow joined The Usual Suspects on an outdoor stage on May 8, 2005, to celebrate the grand opening of The Sheryl Crow Aquatic Center, a municipal swimming complex made possible by the nine-time Grammy Award winner's generosity and "the hard work" of countless residents, she said.

"This is one of the most exciting days I've had in a really long time," Crow told the audience on opening day. "If I was in better shape I'd put my swimming suit on and go swimming in the pool." Kennett Chamber of Commerce President Randy Morgan welcomed the crowd that sunny Saturday, and thanked Crow, Keith and Robbin Mitchell and Crow's brother, Steve Crow, of Kennett's Crow homes, "for this wonderful gift to our city."

"You will hear from others this morning about the positive impact the aquatic center will have on Kennett," Morgan said. "But I would like to highlight just one. "That is the way that this community has rallied behind this project, giving their money, their time and their hard work," he continued. "I feel that Sheryl, Keith and Robbin [Mitchell] have revitalized community spirit and pride in our hometown. Again, thank you so much." Steve Crow was quoted as saying the Junior Olympic-sized pool measures 82-feet long by 52-feet wide, 4-feet deep at its shallow ends and 6-feet deep at its mid-point.

The complex features a childrens pool, a splash pad and a large water slide that will please "kids and those of us who are kids at heart." He added that the pool house alone would cost in excess of €83,000 ($100,000) to construct. "It contains mens and womens locker rooms, a lobby, an administration area and offices, an equipment room, a chemical storage room and is approximately 2,000-square feet," Steve Crow said at the time. "I think the building fits the pool nicely.

"This was a real fun project," the builder added. "I'm taking lots of pride in this one, too."

Sheryl Crow is recuperating at her Los Angeles residence from radiation treatments for breast cancer. Her parents returned home to Kennett from a recent visit with their daughter, and Steve Crow and his family are visiting the singer now. "She's in great spirits and is feeling really good," Bernice Crow said. "But we're not letting her spend a whole lot of time by herself."
